Our Steps Towards a More Sustainable Future

Here at Obsidian Moon, we’re conscious of the impact we’re having on our environment. That’s why we’ve teamed up with coffee roasters and farmers who take this as seriously as we do. Not only do we want to ensure that our carbon impact is as low as possible, we also want to ensure that we are sourcing our coffee from fair practices.

Instead of having a five-year plan to show the steps we are taking to reduce our impact and increase our sustainability, we wanted to hit the ground running with our environmental targets to ensure that our impacts remain as low as possible.

We're starting as we mean to go on by ensuring we do the following from day one.

Carbon offsetting production – Our coffee roasters work to offset all the carbon they produce each year. This was a big hit with us and showed that our roasters care as much as we do about the impacts the coffee trade can have on the environment.
The coffee trade is far from carbon neutral, but by highlighting where improvements can be made or by funding equivalent carbon dioxide savings else where our roasters work to ensure they are as close to carbon neutral as possible!

100% recyclable – The bags your coffee is delivered in are made from 100% recyclable materials (PET 12). Once you’re done with your coffee simply add the bag to your recycling. Oh, and these bags are also produced using carbon neutral methods as well!
PET-12 is a great plastic product because it can be recycled over and over. Other plastics become unsuitable to recycle in the same loop after a certain number of uses and have to be downgraded into other products or added to landfill.

Fair and Ethical – 100% of our coffees are specialty grade and are fully traceable back to the farmer who produced them. Our coffee roaster partners have worked closely for over five years with some of these farmers ensuring that a strong relationship exists.
Being a smaller importer of coffee allows our roasters to work with a select number of independent green coffee suppliers, who are as passionate about the future of green coffee practices as we are!
